World Knitting Day in Public

June 11 marks World Knitting Day in Public an event born about ten years ago from an idea of Danielle Landes, initially the events were few and concentrated all in the U.S.; the phenomenon has since been growing rapidly, steadily and internationally gaining more and more adherents. Associations, haberdasheries, and yarn companies organize annual gatherings that bring together knitting enthusiasts from around the world to celebrate this noble ancient art in a collective “knitting spree.” Knitting is more than just a hobby; in fact, several studies have shown that this form of creative work has therapeutic effects for those who practice it.
Knitting develops motor skills, stimulates concentration and generates spaces for relaxation and meditation.
Performing repeated movements, seeing one’s creation take shape, is an excellent stimulus to pursue a goal, which distracts our attention from the problem that is plaguing us at that moment.
World Knitting Day in Public also provides the basis for building another kind of fabric, the social fabric, since it serves as the element that binds together people doing the same group activity. Laines du Nord would like to pay tribute to all knitting enthusiasts of the Safari Tank Top tutorial, a quick and easy project to make where creativity is emphasized by the cleverly juxtaposed colors given by a patterned yarn.
